THE PULSE ENSEMBLE THEATRE
PLAYWRIGHTS' LAB.

The PLAYWRIGHTS' LAB. is dedicated to developing the writing skills and one particular work of the participating playwrights.

The PLAYWRIGHTS' LAB. consists of a group of playwrights who meet for three hours a week, to listen to actors read scenes from their plays.

After the readings, there is constructive discussion about how well the work is serving the objective of the playwright. We work hard to ensure that these will not be cold readings.

PULSE provides the actors for the scenes, and gets scripts to the actors so that they can read the scripts before the workshop meets. The group is guided by an Instructor appointed by PULSE. All playwrights involved are expected to participate in discussion about all the works being read, not only their own.

The group is not more than ten playwrights in size.
The playwrights who are to be read the following week--usually four , fill out a sheet defining the characters they need for their scenes eg., Woman 40's or 50's, and leave the sheet with PULSE one week before the next meeting. They must provide enough copies of the scene--one for each character, stage directions and the Instructor, to PULSE, no later than the Friday before the Monday's workshop. PULSE does not make the copies of the scripts, nor can faxed copies be accepted.

This Lab. is a 4 month session, i.e., four consecutive months.
At the end of the 4 months, the playwrights' work is presented to the public. The play is given a full reading with minimal staging. PULSE casts the play, provides the director, provides the presentation venue, and free rehearsal.
